Save your dog's paws, use cat litter on your sidewalk
Doggies need their
walkies, but come winter, they are walking on ice that has been salted...often
on surfaces that have been de-iced using chemicals that can be harmful if
ingested by your pooch when he licks himself.
While you can't control
what the city and other home owners choose to use on their property, consider
using cat litter for your own walkways instead of commercial salts...and always
clean their paws for them with a damp cloth when you get home.
Another solution is to
get them used to using booties. My Pet Project Supplies & Accessories
carries product called PAWS disposable booties. Booties help prevent paws from
the damaging effects that come from exposure to the painful cold.
Extreme temperatures can
crack paws, and icy shards can also tear them. Dog owners, particularly those
with less hardy breeds should limit exposure in harsh climates.
Using these tips will
save on costly vet bills, and, more importantly, will save Fido from a lot of
suffering.
